Methodology
How We Verify Gutter Companies
GutterList is built from verifiable public business information. Our guiding rule is simple: real businesses, real sources, no fabricated data. When something can't be confirmed, we leave it blank rather than guess.
How companies are discovered
We identify candidate companies by searching for gutter businesses by state, city and service, and by consulting official business and contractor registries. Discovery alone never results in publication — every candidate must pass verification first.
Source hierarchy
Facts are taken from the most authoritative available source, in this order:
- The company's official website (home, services, contact and about pages).
- Official state business registries.
- Official contractor or licensing registries.
- Other official, public, industry sources.
- Official APIs where their terms permit such use.
We do not scrape Google Maps, Yelp or similar services in violation of their terms. Every published fact stores the exact source URL it came from.
Field-level sourcing
Each fact — company name, phone, address, service area and every listed service — is recorded with its own source. A service is marked as offered only when the company's own website states it. We never infer one service from another: a company that lists gutter installation is not assumed to offer gutter cleaning.
Verification status
- Verified — a real company with an official website, a confirmed city/state or service area, and at least one confirmed gutter service.
- Partially Verified — confirmed as a real company, but with some fields still missing.
- Needs Review — discovered automatically but with doubts or conflicting data. These are held in an internal queue and never published.
The Verified and Partially Verified badges describe how completely we could confirm public information. They are not endorsements, ratings, or judgments about the quality of a company's work.
Service areas
A company is shown on a city page only when its own website confirms it serves that city — either through a physical address there or an explicit service-area statement. We do not assume coverage by radius. When a company clearly operates only in nearby towns and does not name a given city, it is held out of that city's page.
Duplicate handling
A single company may have several phone numbers, a legal name that differs from its brand, multiple service-area pages, or coverage across many towns. We treat it as one record — matched by domain, normalized name, phone and legal identity — and that one record can appear on several city pages where its service area is confirmed.
Publication criteria
A city earns its own page once enough companies are verified for it — preferably five or more, and no fewer than three for a major city with good data. Cities with only one or two confirmed companies are held back to avoid thin, low-value pages. Service pages are only published when at least one company confirms that service.
Why we don't use ratings
GutterList is a directory, not a review site or a ranking. We do not display stars, ratings, review counts or testimonials, and we do not import them from other platforms. Companies are listed alphabetically by default; you can re-sort by name, most recently verified, or number of verified services. There is no paid placement.
Corrections
Business information changes. If a listing is wrong or out of date, anyone — including a company's own representative — can reach us at [email protected]. See the Corrections page for what we can update or remove.
